The Wolves

Performed October 2025 at Virginia Wesleyan University

We are often asked questions all through our primary education like “what do you want to be when you grow up?” A questions that nearly every 14-19 year old absolute despises. This question can take many forms; Where do you want to go to school? What are your plans after graduation? Do you have a job? Every time I heard this question, I became equal parts annoyed, rebellious, anxious, and isolated. As teenagers, we look towards our families and friends to help us through these times when we are experiencing these conflicted feelings.

Through the awkwardness of middle and high school puberty, we find “teams” of people whom we grow and connect with. Those teams can take a variety of different shapes and size, and can form from shared experiences, actual sports that we are involved in, or lifelong friendships. The Wolves is a brief glimpse into these emotions and experiences, and highlight the importance of what your team can do for you. Teams are much like families. They bicker, they fight, sometimes they love each other and sometimes they hate each other, but in the end they are there for one another. As time goes on, and teams grow apart, the connection they shared will always remain. Teams reunite at homecomings and reunions, and those shared experiences and connections get to live on, because the bonds that you create through these teams are lifelong, and no matter what may change, we will always be a part of that team. We will always be that annoyed, rebellious, anxious, and sometimes isolated teenager, and we will always have our team to rally and support us when we need it.
